FUNDACIÓN EVOCÓ SU ACCIONAR POLÍTICO
A 40 años del asesinato de Zelmar Michelini, recuerdan su pensamiento
En el marco de los 40 años de los asesinatos de Zelmar Michelini, Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz, Rosario Barredo, Williams Whitelaw y el secuestro y desaparición de Manuel Liberoff, la Fundación Zelmar Michelini desarrolló el seminario sobre “Acción Política y Pensamiento” que desplegó el trabajo de uno de los políticos más importantes del siglo XX uruguayo, en un evento que contó con la presencia del historiador Gerardo Caetano.
Entre miércoles y jueves tuvo lugar el Seminario denominado: “Zelmar Michellini: Acción política y pensamiento”. El acto central del mismo se llevó a cabo en la sala Hugo Balzo del Auditorio Nacional Adela Reta, este jueves 17.
Acompañaron el acto, entre otras personalidades, el presidente del Honorable Directorio del Partido Nacional, Luis Alberto Heber, el presidente del Partido Independiente, Pablo Mieres, el integrante de la Institución Nacional de Derechos Humanos y Defensoría del Pueblo, Juan Faroppa y el titular de la Oficina de Planeamiento y Presupuesto, Álvaro García.
La Presidente de la Fundación, Cecilia Michelini, recordó los distintos homenajes colectivos a lo largo del año encabezadas por la Fundación a las cinco figuras que se recuerdan, que incluyen actividades en la calle con música para niños así como talleres también para niños, jóvenes y familias. Se han organizado así mismo ámbitos de reflexión y todo tipo de actividades que enriquecen y proyectan a estas figuras en particular la de Zelmar Michellini, su padre.
Añadió que la reflexión y difusión de la memoria colectiva es uno de los pilares del instituto por lo que la Fundación realizó los coloquios “Ellos en nosotros, 40 años”. También destacó la trascendencia de recordar y homenajear a cada uno individualmente como amigo, padre, hermano, por lo cual se realizó un acto especial para cada uno de ellos.
En este caso se realizó el último acto particular, dedicado a Zelmar Michelini, y se profundizó sobre su pensamiento. La actividad se organizó con la presencia del profesor Gerardo Caetano y desarrolló con cuatro mesas temáticas y un acto central.
En el acto central se proyectó una película especial con documentación histórica dedicada a Zelmar Michellini, realizada por Mateo Gutiérrez (hijo del asesinado Gutiérrez Ruiz).Tras el audiovisual se realizaron oratorias de Graciela Michellini, Cecilia Alemany, José Luis Corbo y Gerardo Caetano, finalizando el acto con la intervención musical de Pinocho Routin y Pitufo Lombardo.
La próxima actividad prevista por la Fundación Zelmar Michellini será el 1° de diciembre con la inauguración de la Biblioteca Elisa Delle Piane.
Zelmar Michelini dedicó su vida a la defensa de las libertades y la igualdad social.
Zelmar Raúl Michelini Guarch nació en Montevideo el 20 de marzo de 1924. Se desempeñó en el Banco Hipotecario del Uruguay, desde el cual formó parte del sindicato bancario. Como estudiante de derecho participó del movimiento estudiantil, del cual fue secretario del Centro de Estudiantes de Derecho y de la Federación de Estudiantes Universitarios del Uruguay.
Militó en el Partido Colorado dentro de la Lista 15 que encabezó Luis Batlle Berres, con quien se desempeñó como su secretario político hasta la fundación de la Lista 99. En 1954 ingresó a la Cámara de Diputados y en 1966 a la Cámara de Senadores. Fue Ministro de Industria durante cinco meses del año 1967 y luego vuelve a su cargo de senador como firme opositor a las políticas del Presidente Jorge Pacheco.
En 1971 es uno de los fundadores del Frente Amplio, con el cual renovaría su banca en el Senado. La violencia política de aquellos años llega a su casa, cuando sufre un atentado en 1972. A raíz del Golpe de Estado de 1973 se refugia en Buenos Aires, ciudad donde proseguirá con su accionar antidictatorial, que lo llevará a denunciar las violaciones a los Derechos Humanos de los golpistas uruguayos ante el Tribunal Russell en 1974.
“Llegamos a este Tribunal Russell para Acusar a la dictadura uruguaya (…) de haber arrasado las instituciones, conculcado las libertades, mancillado la tradición oriental, violado la Constitución, las leyes, los acuerdos internacionales. Los acusamos de haber perseguido, acosado, torturado, vejado y asesinado a su pueblo transformando las cárceles en lugares de sufrimientos y escarnio y de haber desatado el terror a todo nivel.
Los acusamos de haber tratado por todos los medios de reducir al hombre común y anónimo al que tan solo vive, así como el que lucha por la liberación nacional a meras cosas, incapaces de sentir y de pensar”, dijo el 10 de marzo de 1974 en Roma, sede del tribunal.
Fue secuestrado el 18 de marzo de 1976. Su cuerpo fue descubierto tres días más tarde, junto a los del diputado Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz, Rosario Barredo y Williams Whitelaw.
