«Mi padre sigue ganando batallas después de muerto», dijo el viceministro Benjamín Liberoff a 40 años de la desaparición de su padre, secuestrado en el marco del Plan Cóndor.
De estos cinco desaparecidos, el único cuerpo que no ha sido encontrado hasta el momento es el del médico uruguayo, mientras que el resto de sus compañeros aparecieron torturados y asesinados por grupos afectos al régimen de gobierno que se desarrollaba en la época.
En ese sentido, uno de los hijos del doctor desaparecido, Benjamín Liberoff, dijo a Efe que con este homenaje, tanto su padre como sus compañeros asesinados «siguen ganando batallas después de muertos».
«Sentir que la gente diga que su padre es un hombre bueno, es una gran cosa en la vida» expresó.
De igual forma, al ser consultado sobre las recientes sentencias a los militares involucrados en el Plan Cóndor, en el que la Justicia argentina condenó a penas de entre 8 y 25 años de prisión a 15 acusados manifestó que «los años demuestran» que «no es con decretos ni leyes» que «se puede creer» que se cierran acontecimientos históricos en la vida de los pueblos.
«Lo del Plan Cóndor es una demostración palmaria, no es que no se supiera que existió este plan, pero el hecho de que uno sienta de que la impunidad deja de tener vigencia cuando pasan esas cosas y que pasan cosas que en definitiva llevan a comprender que no se puede hacer de los derechos humanos cualquier cosa», aseguró.
Además, el también viceministro de Turismo agregó que «de alguna manera» el tiempo «va poniendo las cosas en su lugar», aunque a su juicio, «desgraciadamente muy tarde».
Durante el acto de homenaje también estuvo presente el senador Felipe Michelini, hijo del legislador secuestrado junto a Liberoff y asesinado en Argentina Zelmar Michelini, quien dijo a Efe que es «muy importante» la memoria para Uruguay, ya que para el país, la dictadura «dejó secuelas enormes».
«El hecho de que tengamos permanentemente presente la necesidad de la verdad y los hechos que ocurrieron para reparar a las víctimas y sus familiares, la necesidad de recordarlos y que no nos olvidemos de la gente que quedó por el camino, es un hecho para recordar que nunca más debemos tener terrorismo de Estado», aseveró.
Por su parte, el director del la Institución Nacional de Derechos Humanos de Uruguay, Juan Raúl Ferreira, precisó a Efe que este acto «tiene una significación tremenda».
«Hoy es un día histórico, hemos incorporado a la memoria colectiva de Uruguay a la figura de aquel hombre gigante que fue el doctor Manuel Liberoff», sentenció.
Durante el desarrollo de este sistema de gobierno en coordinación con los demás regímenes dictatoriales instalados en países de la región en el marco de una operación conocida como Plan Cóndor se estima que más de 200 uruguayos -hombres, mujeres y niños- desaparecieron en el país y en el exterior.
En este homenaje también estuvieron presentes las ministras de Turismo, Liliam Kechichián, de Educación y Cultura, María Julia Muñoz, así como los ministros de Trabajo y Seguridad Social, Ernesto Murro y Salud Pública, Jorge Basso.
