El premio “Mención de Honor Juana Azurduy de Padilla” es otorgado a personas físicas o jurídicas en reconocimiento a su labor por haberse destacado en el quehacer científico, técnico, cultural, político, social, deportivo, económico, educativo, ético, moral y emprendedor de la Argentina o de países extranjeros; y que hayan obtenido logros de interés para sus comunidades, propendiendo al bien común y defendiendo la soberanía, la independencia y la integración de los pueblos. Estos son los valores que expresa la figura de Juana Azurduy de Padilla.
De este modo, el Senado de la Nación adhiere al reconocimiento a la memoria de Zelmar Raúl Michelini Guarch y Héctor Guitierrez Ruiz en el marco del ciclo “Ellos en Nosotros: 40 años”, que se está realizando también en ciudades como Montevideo, Ginebra y Barcelona.
Organizado por la Fundación Zelmar Michelini (FZM) y la Embajada de Uruguay en Argentina, este ciclo consiste en la realización de una serie de actividades en distintos lugares del mundo con objetivo de homenajear y recordar a estos hombres de ideas, acción, firmes convicciones y destacada labor legislativa en el parlamento uruguayo, cuyas vidas fueran arrebatadas prematuramente como consecuencia de su lucha inclaudicable por la verdad, la justicia y la democracia.
Ambos se exiliaron en nuestro país tras el golpe de Estado que sufrió Uruguay el 27 de junio de 1973, y fue desde aquí que ejercieron tanto el periodismo como la movilización contra la dictadura uruguaya. Ambos murieron asesinados en nuestro país como consecuencia de su militancia.
