A 40 años de sus asesinatos, la Asamblea General rindió homenaje a los ex-legisladores Zelmar Michelini y Héctor Gutiérrez Ruíz. En el acto hicieron uso de la palabra varios legisladores y estuvieron presentes, en los palcos de honor, Matilde Rodríguez Larreta, la familia Michelini y el Canciller Rodolfo Nin Novoa.
En su discurso, el diputado nacionalista Jorge Gandini dijo que existen dos tipos de justicia, la concreta y la que trasciende: “la justicia que radica en que hoy los recordamos a ellos como símbolos de tantos, porque a ellos los recordará la historia”, expresó.
Por su parte, el diputado colorado Germán Cardozo mencionó que la Comisión para la Paz, instalada por el expresidente Jorge Batlle representó un avance en la búsqueda de la verdad sobre la represión.
En tanto, el diputado del Partido Independiente Iván Posada dijo que sobre estos crímenes existe una deuda que no se termina de pagar. “Sus vidas, más que su muerte, son las que generaron el espacio de agradecimiento que les debemos”, expresó el legislador.
El cierre de la oratoria estuvo a cargo del senador frenteamplista Rafael Michelini, quien dijo que estos asesinatos fueron un símbolo del terrorismo de Estado que se extendió a lo largo de la dictadura. Michelini agregó que recordar no es mirar al pasado sino enseñarle a las nuevas generaciones a vivir en libertad, sin miedo, para “que sepan que eso nunca más va a volver a pasar”.
