El jueves en un Paraninfo de la Universidad de la República completamente colmado se presentó la Fundación Zelmar Michelini (FZM). Su objetivo es claro, difundir el pensamiento y la obra del senador asesinado un 20 de mayo de 1976.
La familia estaba completa y fue acompañada por autoridades nacionales y extranjeras. La FZM, creada por Elisa Delle Piane de Michelini, fue saludada epistolarmente por el presidente Tabaré Vázquez que se excuso por no concurrir. También saludaron desde Chile, la mandataria Michele Bachelet, la diputada Isabel Allende y la Fundación Salvador Allende. Los senadores Jorge Larrañaga y José Amorín Batlle también enviaron su mensaje de afecto para Michelini y la FZM.
En la ceremonia participaron alumnos de la Escuela 113 y María Inés Obaldía fue la que dirigió el lanzamiento. La Camerata Juvenil del Ministerio de Educación y Cultura abrió el acto. Se proyectó un video donde amigos y familiares dieron su punto de vista de Michelini como padre, como deportista, como periodista y como hombre de la política.
La Fundación saludó a las familias de William Whitelaw, Rosario Barredo y Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz que estaban presentes en el acto. También hubo una salutación para la familia de Wilson Ferreira Adunate, el senador blanco que también estaba en la mira del plan de asesinato de la dictadura.
Italo Bove, integrante del Consejo Directivo de la FZM, tomó la palabra para recordar que cuando asesinaron a Michelini tenía seis años. Sus padres le dijeron que tenía que saber una cosa importante, que el padre de su amigo había sido asesinado por su manera de pensar. Pero que no se lo podía decir a nadie.
Bove manifestó que la Fundación está abierta a todos los que se sientan comprometidos con los ideales de libertad, igualdad y justicia, de los que Michelini hizo su bandera.
